Patrick Fedor helps the Tropics team analyze data from NASA satellite imagery and from the Tanguro field station in the Amazon. He is excited to join Woodwell Climate and to use research and data to support the Tropics team’s work on meaningful policy.

Fedor has had a unique career path. He spent ten years in the hospitality industry, most recently as a general manager for a Boston-based catering company. In that role, Fedor was responsible for handling the human resources functions for the company, as well as overseeing tax compliance and business development. After Fedor was laid off during the pandemic, he decided to reinvent himself. He enrolled in the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he earned his degree in economics. Fedor sought to pursue a career in quantitative economics, and considered himself “Ph.D. curious.” However, he ended up recently earning his master’s degree in data analytics and policy from Johns Hopkins University.

As a graduate student, he explored how data impacts a wide range of public policy issues and became proficient at statistical modeling programs, including R and Python. Fedor believes data is a very powerful and convincing tool, and he hopes to use his skills to work at the intersection of policy and research in order to become an advocate for data-driven policy changes.

Outside of work, Fedor is an avid learner and lover of classical music and the opera. He also enjoys playing tennis and going to the beach. Fedor is constantly chasing an endless summer, as he splits his time between Falmouth, MA, and Fort Lauderdale, FL.
